Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirements for Operating Room Nursing Assistant Experience required for GS-04:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least six (6) months of general experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or provided a familiarity with nonprofessional nursing care, such as performing work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility AND six (6) months of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
providing assistance inside the operating room to members of the surgical team (e.g. surgeon, anesthetist, or registered nurse). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04:
Successful completion of a two-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04:
If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Experience required for GS-05:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
providing assistance inside the operating room to members of the surgical team (e.g. surgeon, anesthetist, or registered nurse) and preparing an operating room for surgical procedures, such as setting up surgical equipment, supplies, or solutions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05:
Successful completion of at least a full four-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field of study. Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-05:
If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Experience required for GS-06:
One year of specialized experience which includes providing assistance inside the operating room to members of the surgical team (e.g. surgeon, anesthetist, or registered nurse), preparing an operating room for surgical procedures, such as setting up surgical equipment, supplies, or solutions and maintaining aseptic technique. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06:
A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing or a related field of study. Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
