Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirements for Operating Room Nursing Assistant Experience required for GS-04:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least six (6) months of general experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or provided a familiarity with nonprofessional nursing care, such as performing work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility AND six (6) months of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:
providing assistance inside the operating room to members of the surgical team (e.g. surgeon, anesthetist, or registered nurse). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04:
Successful completion of a two-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04:
If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify. Experience required for GS-05:
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:

To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education in excess of 60 hours (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. One year of specialized experience which includes providing assistance inside the operating room to members of the surgical team (e.g. surgeon, anesthetist, or registered nurse), preparing an operating room for surgical procedures, such as setting up surgical equipment, supplies, or solutions and maintaining aseptic technique. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06:
A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Nursing or a related field of study. Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-06:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
