The Department of the Army Pathways Internship Program is designed to provide students currently enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work and get paid while exploring federal careers through a job with the Department of Army.
About the Position:
Position(s) will be filled under the Department of the Army Pathways Intern Program. Click here for more information on Pathways program participation. The Department of the Army Pathways Interns may be converted to a permanent position within 120 days of successful completion of the program.
This intern position is designed to prepare a student trainee for employment after graduation as a Human Resources Specialist, GS-0201-05 or -07. Interns will be assigned to one or more higher graded specialists who will assign tasks designed to increase familiarity with the target occupation, in a real world work environment.
This opportunity follows a standard promotional path:
1. Internship at the GS-03 (typically college students with Sophomore or Junior standing) and GS-04 (typically college students with Senior standing).
2. After completion of Internship requirements, conversion to the entry-level for the target occupation. Entry level for Human Resource Management positions is at the GS-0201-05 or -07 levels. The actual grade level at the time of conversion depends on academic achievement and other factors.
3. The entry-level position will have a target full performance level, such as GS-09 or GS-11 or GS-12. Progression from the entry-level to the full performance level for this occupation will depend on successful completion of all requirements for promotion. Promotions may be considered after a year at each grade level, but are not guaranteed to occur on a specific time schedule.

Positions are open to current students in an accredited high school, college (including 4-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; advanced degree programs; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Current students in good standing at an accredited educational institution.
As an intern, you will be assigned to a senior specialist or group of specialists. You will be assigned tasks designed to familiarize you with different aspects of the occupation. Tasks will vary depending on the senior specialist's current workload, but may include the following:
Answer applicant questions by email and telephone
Draft job opportunity announcements using provided templates
Research federal regulations and Army policy using internet sources
Create informational material for job applicants
Design visual aids and presentations for use in employee training
The ideal candidate for this internship is enrolled as a Sophomore or Junior in a baccalaureate program, and has declared a major directly related to human resource management (such as business administration with a human resource management emphasis). The ideal candidate will have excellent grades, and participates in related extra-curricular activities, such as active membership in a nationally recognized human resource management professional association. Strong candidates will have academic experiences which include preparing presentation materials such as Powerpoint slides, writing reports, and public speaking.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-03, students must have completed one full academic year of post-high school study. One full academic year is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent one year of full-time study.
To qualify for a Pathways Internship at the GS-04, students must have completed two full academic years of post-high school study, or have an associate's degree. Two full academic years is the number of credit hours determined by the college, university, or school to represent two years of full-time study.
Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience. Eligibility requirements for conversion to a permanent position. Interns must:
Be a U.S. Citizen
Complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program
Complete their degree or certificate requirements
Meet the Office of Personnel Management's qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted
Meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Participant's Agreement, and;
Perform their job successfully as documented through performance evaluations and/or completion of an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
